I continue to
learn new things about him, and myself, everyday. This month is a little
bittersweet for me because I am going back to work. I knew May 18th would
come eventually, but now that it is actually here, I can't help but wish I
could start these past two months all over again. I miss being home all
day with Liam. It will be hard not spending every waking moment with the
one person I love more than anything in this world. But, to say the
least, we both survived our first day apart. Tonight will be filled with
lots of cuddles.
Anyway, here are a few things I have learned in my second month as a mama:
Anyway, here are a few things I have learned in my second month as a mama:
1. I am
still taking so many pictures every day. I am starting to realize that
will probably never change. Photos have the amazing ability to capture
a moment in time, and that is something I will never stop doing.
2. Being
at home with Liam every day, I have learned to cook bigger meals when Chris is
home at night, and eating the leftovers the next day. I am not
sure why it took me this long to realize that. By doing that, I have been
eating much healthier instead of eating frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets every
day.
3. Shower
everyday. Taking a
shower makes me feel happier and gives me energy. I understand that having
a small baby at home makes it more difficult to do this, but I have learned
there are ways to make it happen. I usually bring Liam in the bathroom
with me in his Rock N' Play and talk or sing to him. If he starts
fussing, I would make funny faces at him.
4. When
all else fails, go for a drive. Liam and I drove 30 minutes into
Mankato some days just to walk around the mall or go to Target. Being in
the car soothes Liam and sometimes the only way he would nap.
5. It
is okay to let him cry. Since Liam was born, the second he started to
fuss I dropped everything I was doing to comfort him. I have learned that
if I am in the middle of getting his diaper bag ready to leave the house,
paying a bill, or even putting his laundry away, it's okay to finish
what I am doing. Liam has learned that I will always be there for him no
matter what, it might just take a minute sometimes. He has gotten much
more patient, to say the least, and not to mention it's good for the lungs ;)
If there is one thing we have learned about Liam, it is that he loves to eat and he loves to stretch. He also loves when mommy and daddy say "woof! woof!" to him. Liam loves to smile and laugh and has already tried to start talking (mostly just gasps, squeals and coos). Liam is the happiest and most talkative in the morning when he first wakes up. He loves kisses and to lay under the ceiling fan - he can often be found having conversations with the ceiling fan in our home.
Sleep
couple
hours. He can usually be rocked back to sleep. Napping is hit or
miss. Some days he will sleep practically all day and some days he
refuses to nap at all. On the days he refuses to nap, he isn't fussy,
just wants to be awake...apparently. Liam is usually asleep for good by
10pm and usually doesn't wake up until 5am to eat. He usually goes back
to sleep until 8am or 9am after that.
Eating
Liam is a kid
that LOVES to eat. His favorite is nursing, but he will take a bottle if it is offered.
He eats anywhere from 4oz to 9oz at each feeding which is usually every 2-4
hours (at night he usually goes 5-7 hour stretches). Anyone who has seen Liam
knows that he has NOT missed a meal.....ever.

Liam
continues to bless Chris and I everyday with his curiosity and joy. He loves to
look at mama and daddy and smiles effortlessly any chance he gets. I am so
blessed to be his mama and I cannot wait to see what the next month will hold
for my beautiful family.
